Battle for the Reichstag - 128x128 [final for RWM 8.0]
Howdy
Made a lil and very simple (yet exciting hopefully) 128x128 sp mission of the koenigsplatz battle this morning.
The game has a duration of about an hour as the objective is to hold ground for an hour or so.
The gameplay is designed around strongpoints.. positions on the koenigsplatz with FLAK guns for AT support.. since these guns are about the only means of defense against tanks.. save for maybe a handful of panzers and AT infantry... the frontline will more or less be where the foremost at guns are. Most FLAK guns are static.. so the point is to hold foreward positions for as long as possible and knock out as many soviet tanks with every gun before it is overrun. There are no reinforcements for the player.. so tactical withdrawals to the next strongpoints are imperative.

Alpha version of map is now available for download.
Balance may be off.. some trenches may not be accessible etc, etc..
briefing still needs to be written, messages need some more work..

added a new feature to the map: Zoo Flakturm with ''twin'' 12.8 guns.
This is the best I was able to come up with using the stuff in the editor.
The idea was to add the flakturm to the game as if in a splitscreen...since the Zoo flakturm was located approximately 2 km south-west of the Reichstag it couldnt possibly be placed on the map. Assembling the entire tower in the editor is impossible anyway.
Only one of the four corner gun positions of the tower is displayed.
Ive decided to add this feature because of the fact that the 12.8 guns of the Zoo flak turm were heavily involved in the battle for the Reichstag
Its location on the map enables the player to engage the enemy without the risk of destroying the bridge, which would ruin the game.
Final design:
All flaktower guns have infinite ammo..

Deine "Battle for the Reichstag / Koenigsplatz - Karte" sieht schon recht ansprechend aus. Werd ich auf jedenfall mal ausprobieren.
Mir persönlich gefallen Karten, in der man `ne Stunde lang einen Stützpunkt gegen eine Übermacht verteidigen muß; am besten noch mit der Option, daß man das Schlachtfeld danach wieder komplett unter seine Kontrolle bringen muß.
Wie lange hast du eigentlich für diese Karte gebraucht?

It took me about 6 hours to build the map and another 6 to write the script and to finetune it.
The objective of the mission is to survive the Soviet onslaught for approx an hour. The enemy will fan out into the Reichstag area and advance towards strategic points before initiating the actual assault on the Reichstag itself. The game features three stages..diplomatic quarter or frontline, koenigsplatz and Reichtag.
To force evenly distributed action accross the map, each of these lines of defence are manned by static defense forces that will be unlocked and tranferred to the player when an enemy breakthrough shifts the action to the next line of defense.
Counterattacks are not planned......but I could easily implement this feature by stopping the enemy reiforcements after a certain amount of time has elapsed. But the reinforcements for the soviets at the point in the war were virtually limitless, although a tactical victory could of course still be achieved by individual german combat formations.
The guns on the tower are supposed to represent 12.8 Flaks. I've placed different guns cause 170 mm, when placed on the left tower, would be able to hit and destroy the bridge. Once the bridge is done for the game becomes corrupted as enemy forces wont be able to enter the battlefield anymore.
The ammo for the guns is set to infinite because well....Flaktuerme were fully self sufficient and were usually fully stocked with ammo which was delivered to the gunfloor using ammunition lifts. Ammunition was never an issue for Flakturm gun crews. Limiting the ammo would suggest that the Zoo flakturm completely depleted its supply of ammunition during the defense of the Reichstag, which I think is kind of silly.
Besides.. you really need the Flak support to last through the game.

In der neuen Beta sind da vorne überall Minen, da kommste eigentlich garnicht hin

Yep, as Max pointed out already I have added spawnpointprotection to fix this...a minefield or enemy snipers and guns taking out any germans near the bridge, it's really up to the imagination of the player.

Lost at 2.30min left had only 10 SS grenadiers and a kingtiger left but it was a lot of fun!
