MfG

@Roy:

Several strange things i noticed in 6.71:
- Ranger is slower then elite troops of other nations (compensation for superior armament?)
- British paratrooper with Lee Enfield replenishes granades automatically (programmed this way or bug?)
- Volkssturm wasting fausts on infantry (engine limitation?)
- enemy units in buildings sometimes invulnerable to small arms fire. 1 inf hiding still had 100 hp after having shot at it for 10 mins with 20 troops of various types until ammo was depleted.

Re: RWM 6.8 Änderungen: Status- und Diskussion-Thread
thats a bug since the dawn of time. when infantry are in a house you'll notice they "look" out of alternate windows over a period of time. if your troops are firing at a soldier holding out in a house and can't kill him its because he's "on the other side of the house" looking/firing out a window on another side. your men have to manouvre around the sides of the house to get a shot at him. or alternatively blast or burn him out. handgrenades often accomplish the coup de grace pretty well.nevux hat geschrieben:- enemy units in buildings sometimes invulnerable to small arms fire. 1 inf hiding still had 100 hp after having shot at it for 10 mins with 20 troops of various types until ammo was depleted.
if he is "on the other side", he can't shoot at your men either so another alternative is to pull your men back or make them lie prone so that the fog of war covers the house again and it doesn't show as a target anymore. then send in an entry party of a couple of smgs or flamers to enter the house while the rest of your men are holding fire. make sure they charge through the door at the same time. they'll duell it out with the enemy inside the house for a second or two and usually take him out.

- UK Para grenade is a bug - will be fixed.
- Fausts and Bazooks shooting at Inf is engine-bug..yes :/
- Matt allready answerd the building-issue but building-protection will be slightly reworked in 6.8.

Re: RWM 6.8 Änderungen: Status- und Diskussion-Thread
Thanks for the help Matt.
Even though the reason for this phenomenon is now clear to me I'm still puzzled by it's persistence. If, like you say infantry occupying a building alternates between a number of different positions within that building, it will eventually have to move back into a position from which it faces the besieger and can be attacked accordingly.
As stated when I reported this issue, I witnessed one event in which an entire platoon (25 units incl submachine guns, rifles and machine guns) fired at a building for 5 minutes straight to no avail, until ammo was depleted.
Does infantry randomly alternate between positions or do they shift according to a displacement cycle or something? Either way it is possible that an enemy unit is not tranferred to a position within the player unit's line of sight. In the case of random selection it could occur that within a 5 min time frame the visible location simply is not being appointed.
Cycle duration is perhaps dependent on the size of a building, with cycles of large structures that have a larger number of positions elapsing in over 5 mins.

Re: RWM 6.8 Änderungen: Status- und Diskussion-Thread
i think they randomly alternate. i'm not 100% sure, but i think they change their aspect in a similar way to how infantry change the direction they are facing every few seconds when they are just standing around. but even then they rarely do a coherent 360 degree cycle. sometimes they will switch facing in two or three directions for bloody ages. thats why sometimes, if say there are 3 or 4 soldiers in a house and they open fire your men will kill the first few quickly until there is only one left. he is often at the back of the house and can stay there for a very long time. if you have no heavy weapons then its best to outflank the house or let the fog of war cover the house again and then send in an entry team. another tactic, if you have 2, 3 or 4 tanks or AT guns against a very strong (large) building is to make them hold fire then all open fire at once. the combined barrage will often make the enemy soldier decide to leave the building. then you can cut him down.nevux hat geschrieben:Does infantry randomly alternate between positions or do they shift according to a displacement cycle or something?

Re: RWM 6.8 Änderungen: Status- und Diskussion-Thread
I have the impression that this problem doesn't so much apply so to buildings in general, but is related to specific building models in stead. The reason for this suspicion is that on both accounts where I observed this phenomenon the exact same building type was involved (object 147, see image below).
Re: RWM 6.8 Änderungen: Status- und Diskussion-Thread
happens with lots of buildings nevux. i have the feeling, the bigger the building the more frequently it happens, probably cos there are more windows/firing points for the units to displace to. small houses never have the problem afaik. its not really that bad when you think about it - the bigger the building the more places to hide;). just send a team into the building to clear it out. its actually not unrealistic.
