!!! NEW STRATEGY WWII VIDEOGAME !!!

"PANZER GROUNDS" is a WWII Strategic videogame project.

You will be allowed to command units at the company scale or unit per unit when you need (for infantry platoon or tank by tank).

MAPS will be very big, more than 5 km per 5km.

You will need to use trenchs, deploy artillery, focuse on panzers attacks, deploy bombers, reco units, put mines on the battlefield, build/rebuild bridges, etc... etc...

Before playing you will have to create a deck then play with it...

It looks interesting. But I think Unity can't handle RTS mechanics as we are known e.g. from Sudden Strike series - lot of units, big battles, 6vs6 MP etc. It's a lot of operations that are continuously repeated, highly optimized and Unity is universal engine. There will be severe limits.

As you said: Unity is a universal engine. You can use it as a graphics engine and implement all the functions for ai and so on by yourself. It would be a lot of work but I don't think that it would be impossible. Also limits would not be necessary if the focus would be on efficient routines rather than on eye candy. Especially when you think about the increase in computing power since the release of SuSt. Why not use one core on a quadcore CPU for ai exclusively?
Most other 3D-RTS games like Panzers, Company of Heroes etc. were developed to look as good as your average FPS. So better grapics but small maps, stupid ai etc. Graphics sell games, ai doesn't. It's not a technical problem but a financial one.

"Graphics sell games, ai doesn't. It's not a technical problem but a financial one." - on Kickstarter is the developer relatively free, he can still do "hardcore" or "old school" RTS without compromises, that's great! :)

You have to quickly calculate pathfinding, visibility, motion, shooting.. in the limited time, if you have 1000 - 10 000 units you need perfect algorithms and do not use any add-ons. Unity is slow for games like Transport Tycoon, Sust, and from the newer - Factorio e.g .. even in 2D

8 processor cores here will not save anyone (btw. programming for multiple cores is hard). Today's hardware is very powerful but programmers works a bit differently, they use extensions and frameworks or engines like Unity for various reasons. Here must go deep to basics.

From Kickstarter article:
Each player will face his enemy with an equivalent Custom Deck (Custom Army) in term of points. Each Deck is up to 8 Company (A Company is approximatively 100mens, or 20 tanks).
(50 soldiers + 10 tanks) * 8 = 480 units per side, not bad if there are at the same time from a technical viewpoint. Of course, it depends especially on gameplay.
