How to modify model's texture

Beitrag von Casquebleu »

If you want to edit model textures, you will need two applications. For this tutorial, I used two free programs :

Gimp which is a free and open source image editor

and Blender an application which lets you make 3D models, animation, vfx, game making and much more.

You can download them from these links :
- Gimp
- Blender

OK, now first thing to do, launch UABE and extract all needed files from unitmodels archive. Let's try with a german medic soldier.

Create a new folder named Ge_Medic_Soldier and extract texture file first (1) then model (2) file. Use Plungins button to do it and save in TGA or OBJ in your new folder.

Before starting to modify this texture, make a copy of it

Now let's use Blender and load this model. First think to do, delete the cube ("del" touch), and load your model (FILE => IMPORT => WAVEFRONT.OBJ)

To rotate a model, hit R key then :

- X key to rotate X axis
- Y key to rotate on Y axis
- Z key to rotate on Z axis

The mouse buttons are called :

- LMB (left mouse button)

- RMB (right mouse button)

First, zoom in with center mouse wheel then, rotate this model on X axis (R + X) and move your mouse to straighten model, finish with LMB.

From Gimp or any image editor, load your Ge_medic_color - Copie.tga file (1). Don't forget to lock it against modification. Then add layers and use your imagination (2)

When your texture is finished, save it as Ge_medic_color.tga in the same folder. Now we will update it in Blender

You can check now on this model (each time you make modification). Import your model in the game and test the result.

Now you can also edit your favorit vehicule like this one :

tuto_045.jpg
tuto_045.jpg (296.97 KiB) 7631 mal betrachtet

First extract Meshes and textures with UABE in a fresh folder.

tuto_044.jpg
tuto_044.jpg (318.33 KiB) 7631 mal betrachtet

In Blender, import all .OBJ files needed then create Materials and textures (if several textures are needed).

For each part of the vehicule, you will just need to link texture to it like this screen :

OK, both (image editor and 3D models application) are difficult to use. Hopefully, you can find many tutorials on youtube but I can't explain much more, it will take me too much time

We will see
