Am Morgen des 7. August 1942.... Wir befinden uns auf den Salomonen. Diese Inselgruppe liegt im Südpazifik und zieht derzeit das Interesse der kriegsführenden Parteien Japan und USA auf sich. Auf und um Guadalcanal wird heftig um die Vorherrschaft gerungen. Alles Interesse gilt dem noch nicht fertiggestellten Flugplatz Henderson Field. Jedoch macht sich die amerikanische Führung daran, die wenigen Einheiten in dieser Region auch noch zu teilen. Da kein schneller Sieg auf Guadalcanal in Sicht ist, soll nun von der kleinen Insel Santa Isabel aus die Landung auf Savo und Tulagi versucht werden. Hauptziel wird der Hafen von Tulagi sein, sowie der Feldflugplatz Tanambogo. Unsere Luftwaffe kann derzeit nicht eingreifen, da unser Trägerverband unter Admiral Fletcher mit der japanischen Flotte beschäftigt ist. Zudem müssen wir Kräfte entbehren, um die Versorgung unserer Truppen auf Guadalcanal sicherzustellen. Unsere Hauptbasis im Südpazifik, Espiritu Santo, ist auch nicht in der Lage, Flugzeuge zu entsenden. Die heftigen Kämpfe haben die Anzahl ei nsatzfähiger Maschinen drastisch reduziert. Die Japaner operieren mit ihren Verbänden von Raubaul kommend mit großer Wirkung. Zudem sind sie in der Lage, einige wenige Maschinen auf der Insel Savo zu stationieren. Sie müssen also auch mit der Bedrohung aus der Luft rechnen. Aktueller Lagebericht: Ein Kreuzerverband nähert sich dem Slot. Wir wissen allerdings nicht, ob er um Savo herum fährt oder sich Guadalcanal von der südlichen Seite nähern wird. Japanische Patrollienboote kommen zwischen den kleinen Inseln vor. Wir wissen auch, dass sich mindestens zwei U- Boote in der Nähe aufhalten. Die I- 21 hat schon unseren Zerstörer USS Helm versenkt. Auf Savo sollen ein bis zwei japanische Sturzkampfbomberstaffeln stationiert sein. Zudem verfügt der Gegner über Aufklärungsflieger. Gelegentlich streifen Jäger ihren Raum, allerdings nur kurz, da sie hauptsächlich von Trägern operieren und daher weite Anflugwege haben. Auf Savo rechnen wir mit etwa 1600 Japanern, es sollen zudem im Hafen 17 japanische Fahrezeuge, darunter auch leichte Panzer ausgeladen worden sein. Das Wetter wird schön bleiben, von Norden nähert sich eine Gewitterfront. Ihre Ziele: 1. Landung auf Savo und Sicherung der Landungsstelle 2. Einnahme der kleinen Ortschaften Halavo, Gavutu und Haleta 3. Sämtliche militärische Basen sind auf Savo auszuschalten und zu besetzen 4. Hafen von Tulagi sichern 5. Flugfelder ausschalten 6.
